Archez lies within a beautiful valley setting with a natural arena. Within this arena various fiestas are held throughout the year and also a popular summer blues festival. The village has a labyrinth of streets, composed of picturesque white- washed houses.
Adjoined to the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnacíon, which is a 16th
century Mudéjar building on the previous site of a mosque, is a minaret dating from the 13th century preserved in perfect condition.
Legend has it that, once upon a time, a lizard fell into the forge where the bell for the church was being made and got stuck to it. If
you’re single and of marriageable age, you can go up the tower to touch the lizard and you’ll find love within a year.
