NATURAL PARK

Size: 12,000 hectares
Sierra de Huetor The Sierra de Huetor Natural Park is situated just north east of Granada City and offers fabulous views to the Sierra Nevada from Mirador Buena Vista. The park area is founded on a limestone mountain with steep sided ravines, mixed woodland and Mediterranean scrub and has an altitude ranging between 1,000 and 1,600 metres.

The limestone lends itself to several caves and springs from which the Moors built the Aynadamar Canal to take spring water from the Fuente Grande in Alfacar into Granada City.

Flora
A variety of trees form forested areas and include the Aleppo Pine, Austrian Pine, Maritime Pine, Cedars, Spanish Fir, Holm Oaks, Gall Oaks and Acers.

Fauna
Mammals include Red Deer, Wild Boar, Spanish Ibex, Fox, Genet, Weasel, Wild Cat, Badger, Beech Martin and Dormouse.

Birds of prey include the Golden Eagle, Booted Eagle, Goshawk, Sparrow Hawk, Buzzard, Little Owl, Tawny Owl and Eagle Owl.

Reptiles include small Lizards, Ladder and Grass Snakes and Lataste’s Viper.

A recovery centre for endangered animals is found at Las Mimbres.
