The Praying Mantis, or praying mantid, is an insect named for
its prayer-like stance. Mantis is derived from the Greek word for prophet or fortune teller.
Their huge compound eyes, mounted on their triangular heads, have a large field of vision used for detecting prey
whilst their antennae are used for smell.
Found in areas of the world with mild winter climates, they are regularly spotted in gardens throughout the Axarquia.
