is considered an autumn constellation and is visible from September to November depending on the time of night.
Grus first appeared on a celestial globe published in 1597 in Amsterdam by Plancius with Jodocus Hondius. Its first depiction in a celestial
atlas was in Johann Bayer's Uranometria of 1603. Plancius chose the crane as a bird considered to symbolise watchfulness.
