OUZOUD |
The quaint village of Ouzoud, with its red buildings constructed from local earth, is found 150
kilometres to the northeast of Marrakech. The main reason to visit this small village in the Atlas Mountains is to see the
spectacular and photogenic waterfalls that flow from the High Atlas mountains into a series of churning pools far below.
The Cascades d'Ouzoud, the highest falls in Morocco, begin at the edge of the village itself from where
there are spectacular views looking down from the top.
Access to the bottom is found to the left hand side after passing
through village houses, past numerous souvenir stalls, cafes and hostels to descend stairs to the pools below where you can
walk all around and swim. A sub-culture of life exists on the way down with donkeys transporting people and goods up and
down the stairs and barbary apes playing on the pathways and trees. |
