Malaga Province Golf Courses
Malaga Province Golf Courses

Spain has a huge number of golf courses, approximately 500, more than 70 of which are in Andalucia. What is more, the Costa del Sol is home to the highest concentration of greens and fairways to be found, not only in Spain but, in the whole of Europe. Not without reason has the Costa del Sol, with the finest golf facilities in Europe, become known as the Costa del Golf. Its simply a golfers paradise!

The 160 kilometre stretch of coastline, from Nerja in the east to Manilva in the west, is home to over 50 golf courses all of which are ideal locations in which to enjoy this popular sport. Add the fabulous year round climate and its most definitely golfing heaven.

All along the coast, the marine landscape combines with the nearby mountains to create recreational conditions in a natural setting that very few holiday destinations can match. Some of the golf courses were also designed as residential areas and are consequently attracting large numbers of foreigners who set up a second home here.

Most of the courses are located on the west coast of Malaga, between Fuengirola and Estepona. However the increase in the quantity and quality of the golf courses to be found in coastal areas is now further complemented by the range of new options available further inland in the Malaga Province. The facilities in towns such as Antequera, Coin and Alhaurin provide an even wider choice for lovers of this stylish, relaxing sport. Furthermore, the nature of the courses to be found in Malaga is as varied as the landscape in which they are situated in terms of number of holes, course type and the variety and quantity of the obstacles that they feature.

To the east of Malaga, in the Axarquia, the two now mature courses are Anoreta, near Chilches and Rincon de la Victoria, and Baviera at Caleta de Velez. Lots more are planned or in construction including an 18 hole course near Chilches and Macharaviaya, with a four star hotel and 1,000 houses, to be built by Juvigolf SA. The company Lomas de Sabato are to construct another 18 hole course between La Vinuela and Alcaucin. In Nerja, where the Golf International Nerja Society (GINS) have around 900 members, the Med Development Group have won the bid to build an 18 hole course and a couple of other courses are in construction at Torrox.
