El Borge lies 28 kilometres from Malaga and 17 kilometres from the coast at Rincon de la Victoria, at an altitude of 237 metres. Located within the area of Axarquia, on the scenic Route of the Raisin, the village has a population of 1,200.
The village clings to a ravine on the banks of the River Borge which runs through. Of Moorish origin, it has narrow and stepped streets with white-washed houses. El Borge is derived from the Arabic name El Burch (the turret). The village church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario dates back to the 16th century and is built in Gothic-Renaissance style.

In the middle of September more than 10,000 people visit El Borge for the Festival of the Raisin. Visitors receive samples of this product plus fresh grapes and wine made from the raisins, acompanied by migas and paella. There are demonstrations of traditional skills, dancing and music continuing through the night. During this festival, an ancient tradition still practiced and peculiar to El Borge is a contest of “Danza de la Rueda”, a circular dance. One of Spain’s most famous bandits, El Bisco del Borge (the Cross-Eyed Man of El Borge), was born in the village during the 19th century where a museum is housed at his birthplace.

Smaller villages within the El Borge municipality are: Las Rozas, Algamiz, Santa Pitar and Cahara.
