Daimalos is situated 47 kilometres from Malaga and 14 kilometres from the coast at Torre del Mar at an altitude of 420 metres. This small, attractive, whitewashed village has a population of less than 100 and lies within the municipality of the village of Arenas within the area of Axarquia on the scenic Mudejar Route.
Locally Daimalos is known for the production of a rich, delicious oloroso wine and is also home to another interesting liquid. The fountain of love, from Arab times, is said to have water with aphrodisiacal powers. But be careful, its also believed that if a single person drinks from the fountain they will soon be married.

The name of the village is thought to be derived from the Arab word for “cortijo” (a group of farmhouses). The church of Iglesia de la Concepcion was built on the site of a mosque. It houses some important paintings and has a 13th century Mudejar minaret.
